Here is an example of a statement:

Our organisation has a good system for obtaining Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks for any volunteers and/or paid workers that have unsupervised contact with children.

Now you have to think about whether this statement is relevant to your organisation – does it work with children and do volunteers and/or paid workers work with children by themselves.

If your organisation does not work with children you would answer
 - “No because this isn’t relevant to our situation”

If your organisation does work with children but you are unsure about what happens in terms of CRB checks you would answer
- “Don’t know”

If your organisation does work with children but no volunteers or paid workers are unsupervised – in other words left alone – with children then it might be that the organisation has not got a system for CRB checks because it doesn’t need it but it might still be something you would like to develop in future just for good practice in which case you would answer
- “Not yet but this is something our organisation would like to have”

If your organisation works with children and it has a system for CRB checks but you feel there might be ways in which it could be better you would answer
- “Yes although this is something our organisation could improve at”

If your organisation works with children and has a system for CRB checks that does the job, all the volunteers and paid workers that need to be checked are checked and checks can be completed in good time then you would answer
- “Yes this is in place, working well in our organisation”

This is a very specific example to give you an idea of how the statements and answers fit together.

In GRIPP the statements are broader in nature and have been chosen because in general terms they do relate to most organisations.
